It is, to all intents and purposes, a love story across both space and time. D’oh, does that ring a bell . . . or what . . .
Despite the series being cancelled on several occasions, a total of 140 episodes were created. We learn that life does not travel in a straight line, time and space both being curved, and the overarching reason for life itself can surely be related in just 7 episodes.
Fry, Bender and Leela
At the moment of the Y2K Philip J Fry is accidentally frozen for 1000 years and is revived in the year 3000 -
. . . and so Futurama begins . . .
Fry soon befriends Bender and Leela and then meets his only living relative who employs them as crew for his package delivery business.
So begins their adventures in the year 3000 . . .
The final episode.
A freak accident causes time to stand still and Fry and Leela are the only two who are not frozen in time. They embark on an eternal honeymoon and are living happily ever after.
Professor Farnsworth, who has been searching through time from yesterday until tomorrow, recovers and repairs the time button and is able to restart time from the moment that it stopped. Although Fry and Leela will lose their memory of the time they spent together, their happiness makes them choose “to go ‘round again”.

After several cancellations (possibly three at the last count) the final episode was aired on Comedy Central on 4 September 2013.
